Sleep More, Weigh Less?

Sleep More, Weigh Less?

Most people go to bed too late, wake up throughout the night and always bank on catching extra zzz’s on the weekend.

Twenty-eight percent of American adults sleep six or fewer hours per night. What’s more alarming is that partial sleep deprivation has been linked to many chronic conditions, including obesity, diabetes and cardiovascular disease. Could years of poor sleeping patterns be affecting eating habits and health?

There is plenty of scientific evidence that associates short sleep duration with weight gain. The more time we spend awake; the more opportunities we have to eat. Add to that a lack of motivation to hit the gym when we’re tired. Partial sleep deprivation may also influence two hormones that affect appetite. The jury’s still out, but many studies have shown that sleep shortage increases ghrelin, which induces hunger, and reduces leptin, thereby lessening satiety.

In a study to be published later this year, researchers looked at how eight nights of sleep restriction affected hormone levels and caloric intake in normal weight adults. Despite no significant changes in leptin and ghrelin, participants limited to sleeping two-thirds their usual duration consumed an average of 566 more calories per day compared with their energy intake under ad lib sleeping conditions.

In a separate study of obese adults, participants ate an extra 83 calories per day for every 30-minute reduction in sleep. Therefore, sleeping just one hour less than the recommended 7.5 hours per night could translate into a 17-pound weight gain per year if no compensation occurs!

Cutting short a snooze may also negatively affect glucose metabolism and insulin sensitivity, although these results are not universally observed.

More research is needed to clarify how sleep deprivation affects endocrine function, but chronically catching too few winks may create the perfect storm for over consumption. Sleeping is clearly a positive health benefit and we should all aim to rest 7 to 8 hours a night!

Tonight is a VERY exciting night

23 Jun

Tonight is a VERY exciting night for all of our Distributors and Preenrollees.  Like every Thursday, it marks our newest CUTOFF DAY.

What does that mean?

Each and every Thursday at MIDNIGHT Pacific time, our system looks to see all the preenrollees who have locked in their position by placing their product order.  Then at midnight, those people move to the TOP of the powerline above everyone who did not order yet.

That means, its critical that you know what you stand to lose by not taking action TODAY.

As soon as even one person in your powerline upgrades to member through the system, ALL of the people above that person in the powerline are notified to let them know that they MUST lock in their position in order to have that person in their team AND earn a commission on them.  Otherwise that person who upgraded is going to leapfrog OVER you and you will lose out on them forever.

It also means that all those people have qualified to earn a check.

You can lock-in your position at www.winwithcoachmarcus.com

Tips to Prevent Weight Gain While on Vacation

Summer is approaching and you most likely have a vacation planned.  Vacation is a time to unwind and relax, however, try not to use your vacation as an excuse to overeat, drink or become physically inactive.  Here are some tips to stay on track while on vacation.

Set a realistic goal and plan

Set a realistic weight management goal and plan for the duration of your trip.  Try your best to monitor your daily caloric intake.  Decide at the onset how many extra calories you are going to allow yourself for the trip.  Stay on track while you are away.

Incorporate physical activity into your itinerary

Make sure you incorporate daily exercise or physical activities that you enjoy.  Some examples, walking on the sand or beach, around the property, go for a bike ride.  Opt for a walking or bike tour.  Exercise is your winning ticket to preventing weight gain while on vacation.

Avoid the temptations

Don’t open that mini bar…it’s filled with high calorie foods.  Ask for a room with a refrigerator to store healthy snacks such as fruit and veggies. Choose healthy options and avoid buffet style eating.  Healthy options will help you manage your hunger between meals.

Practice portion control

Try to enjoy small portions and eat slowly so you can taste the food.  Limiting portion sizes is a great way to control calories and make room for occasional treats.

Make it special

Don’t waste those vacation calories on foods you can eat at any time.  Save your splurge for memorable local foods or specialties that will remind you of your trip and add to your memories.

Everything in moderation

Don’t deprive yourself; it’s not fun when you are on vacation.  Indulge if you must in moderation.  Have a few bites of your favorite dessert and eat small amounts. If you follow these tips it will be possible to enjoy your favorite foods when on vacation without the weight gain.  Don’t use vacation as an excuse to abandon your healthy lifestyle.

Bon Voyage!
